Position Overview

Find your calling at Mercy! Mercy Fort Smith has undergone a $162 million expansion of its ER and ICU. The ER has expanded from 29 to 50 rooms, and the ICU went from 38 to 64 rooms. This expansion enabled approximately 25,000 additional patient visits per year. This significant development allows us to better meet the needs of our community in a world‑class environment.

• Education:
  
  Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate’s Degree, Diploma, or BSN).
• Licensure:
  Personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
• Experience:
  
  1 Year ER experience preferred.
• Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire.
  • Other certifications may be required based on the position/unit hired for or acquisition of certification within department required timeframe: ACLS, NRP, ENPC, TNCC, CPHON, OCN, PALS, PEARS, S.T.A.B.L.E., Six Assessment & Care Modules, C-EFM, and other unit‑specific certifications as required.
• Staffing Ratios: 3:1 ratios on high acuity; with 4:1 as needed.

• Ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
• Prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
• Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.

The only cases that are transferred out are complex ortho, major burns, and certain neurosurgery. Everything else stays in house.

Transforming the Health of Our Communities Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream.

In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States.

In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
