Job Duties

Responsible for investigating reports of adult maltreatment involving adults 18 and older, in accordance with Arkansas Code Annotated 12-12-1701 et. seq. Provides assistance to adults with obtaining supportive services, takes endangered adults into protective custody, and requires extensive interaction with law enforcement, prosecuting attorneys, and state and federal agencies. State‑mandated service deadlines coupled with heavy caseloads and the life‑and‑death nature of the work create a stressful environment.

Frequently on‑call duty for emergency response.

Position may be housed in a different DHS office than listed. In‑state and occasional overnight travel required. Must be able to drive a car, travel on foot to various locations, climb stairs, read and follow map directions. Independent travel to client residences, hospitals, nursing homes, rehab facilities, DHS offices, and provider agencies is required.

Registered Nurses (RNs) provide direct patient care in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and community health programs. RNs assess patient health, develop care plans, administer treatments, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to deliver high‑quality care.

• Assess patient health, monitor vital signs, and document patient progress.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with medical orders.
• Develop, implement, and update patient care plans.
• Educate patients and families on health conditions and wellness practices.
• Participate in multidisciplinary care teams to plan and implement care strategies.
• Maintain accurate patient records and comply with health regulations.

• Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and procedures.
• Ability to perform physical assessments and recognize changes in patient condition.
• Proficiency in administering medications and treatments safely.
• Strong communication skills for patient interaction and team collaboration.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast‑paced environment.

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Arkansas.
• One to two years verifiable RN work experience in in‑home services programs or programs providing services to aged or disabled individuals.
• Strong organizational and time‑management skills preferred.

Current licensed RN in Arkansas is required. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.

Verification of licensure completed through the Arkansas State Board of Nursing online search registry. Disciplinary actions will be reviewed and considered when selecting applicants for hire. Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel are required.
