Quality Technician/ Inspector
Summary
The R&D Food Technician is responsible for assisting Food Technologists in the creation of product samples and related duties related to new product development. A primary function is to manage shipment of sales samples from Fort Smith and Albertville facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Gather all sample request forms; generate shipping air bills, dry ice labels, and necessary product labels.
- Work with Distribution to ensure all sample product is available.
- Inspect samples prior to packing.
- Pack all samples according to directions on Sample Request Form.
- Track products and maintain files of delivered packages.
- Work with Federal Express or other shipping agency to resolve delivery issues.
- Reconcile shipping company invoices.
- Assist Food Technologists in lab, plant, and line trials as needed.
- Maintain laboratory organization and equipment cleanliness daily.
- Valid driver’s license required. Employee required to travel short distances routinely.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or ExperienceHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10s and 100s; perform operations using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance. Must pass a math skills test during the interview process.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; address problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer SkillsModerate typing skills and knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software, preferably Microsoft Word and Excel. Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Windows software, are also needed.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsValid driver’s license required. Employee must travel short distances routinely.
OtherSkills and Abilities
Employee must be available for office hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some after-hours are required when needed to assist in plant trials or testing.
Physical DemandsStand, walk, sit, use hands, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. Regularly lift and move up 50 pounds and occasionally up to 70 pounds. Requires close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work EnvironmentWork performed in an office, test kitchen, plant, and distribution area. Plant conditions may include exposure to freezer and cooler temperatures of 0 to 40°F and ambient temperatures between 70 and 90°F. Employee may handle cleaning solutions. Noise level is low to moderate. Necessary safety equipment will be furnished.
