Position: CONCRETE FINISHER - STREET CONSTRUCTION *
Concrete Finisher

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The incumbent under the guidance of the Streets Supervisor builds and sets up concrete forms to pour, lay and finish concrete. The incumbent also occasionally operates construction and maintenance equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

All City of Fort Smith positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees, and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.

1. Finish concrete;

2. Direct the work of one (1) to three (3) laborers;

3. Assist in setting concrete forms;

4. Drive truck as necessary;

5. Operate concrete saw and jackhammer;

6. Clean and maintain tools and equipment used on the job site;

7. Lay and shovel asphalt as required;

8. Regular attendance and timeliness is required.

* The incumbent should possess knowledge of the use of tools and equipment used in the department.

* Good communication and interpersonal skills.

* Problem solving, speed and accuracy are required to perform the duties of this position.

POSITION DESIGNATIONS

This position is designated as essential during inclement weather events. City services will be maintained during inclement weather, such as heavy snow or ice storms and all essential employees are expected to report to work due to the critical functions of the position. This position is not able to work remotely.

This position does have the potential to drive as part of their regular job duties.

This position is designated as a safety/security sensitive position and is subject to random DOT drug and alcohol screenings and/or non-DOT drug and alcohol screenings (a safety/security sensitive position is one in which a momentary lapse in attention may result in injury or death of another person).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Highly repetitive type of work which requires somewhat diversified physical demands of the employee. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently stand, walk, talk and hear. Occasionally sit and use hands to handle objects. The incumbent must regularly stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and reach with hands and arms. The employee is also required to use the sense of small on a regular basis.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color, distance, and peripheral vision.

The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 100 pounds.

While performing the duties of this position the incumbent is exposed to an outside working environment, wherein there are extremely disagreeable working conditions most of the time and is required to work near moving mechanical parts. The incumbent is also exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals as well as hot weather and related extreme heat.

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
