Position: ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN *

JOB SUMMARY

The incumbent, under the supervision of the SCADA and Water Pump Station Maintenance Supervisor, is responsible for overseeing and proper utilization of all maintenance machinist/mechanics in carrying out tasks necessary for the efficient repair and maintenance of all water treatment plants, pump station, and storage equipment. The position is ensures the Utility Department’s water mechanical systems stay in compliance with requirements of regulatory agencies in coordination with the Utility Department comprehensive strategic management plan.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Note:

Must show cooperation and respect to fellow employees and supervisors at all times. All other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or department director.

  • Install, operate, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all electronic equipment and systems used in the water and wastewater stationary equipment departments.
  • Propose and develop control schemes and approaches to improve operations and regulatory compliance.
  • Operate a variety of diagnostic instruments and meters common to electronics.
  • Document and maintain records of work performed including the completion of work orders, daily logs, electrical schematics, and parts lists; observe, evaluate, assist, and document work performed by outside service repair centers; evaluate service requests and provide feedback as appropriate; and ensure operational requirements are met at all times.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot PLC.
  • Interpret various wiring diagrams, blueprints, and manufacturer specifications for equipment and systems.
  • Work with contractors and engineering to ensure functionality of installations and equipment upgrades.
  • Perform related work as required or assigned.
  • Required to maintain residence within 40 minutes driving time to City Maintenance Center to limit response time for calls to service.
  • Participates in classes and/or attend conferences that are deemed necessary by the SCADA and Water Pump Station Maintenance Supervisor and/or Easement, Building & Station Maintenance Program Manager.
  • Follows City, Utility Department, and Easement, Building & Station Maintenance Program safety practices and guidelines at all times, including wearing proper personal protective/safety equipment.
  • Regular attendance and timeliness are required.
  • Working holidays, shifts and weekends is required.
  • Working standby and being called in to work after hours or on weekends is required.
  • Working overtime may be required.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates Degree in Electronics or related field is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform basic duties as described in Essential Duties & Responsibilities.
  • Obtain Arkansas Department of Health Grade III Water Distribution License within two (2) years from the date of employment.
  • Obtain an Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality Class I Wastewater License within two (2) years from the date of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years’ experience as Electronic Technician.
  • Aerial Lift/Man Lift License.
  • Arkansas Department of Health Grade IV Water Distribution License.
  • Arkansas Department of Health Grade I to Grade IV Water Treatment License.
  • Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality Class II to Class IV Wastewater License.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis on repetitive and catastrophic system failures.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop PLC programming.
  • Demonstrate ability to troubleshoot and maintain fiber, copper, and radio networks associated with SCADA systems.
