Children Youth Programs Substitute

$10.00 an hour

ASYMCA CYP Kids Program – Fort Campbell, KY 42223. As needed Monday‑Friday. Holidays, nights and weekends off.*

Job Overview

The role is performed under the direction of the CYP Director and supports the Pre‑K and Todds teachers, the Children’s Waiting Room, or the Operation Hero facilitator. The substitute’s responsibilities include creating a learning environment that promotes the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of each student and supervising them in various school‑related settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the CYP program meets or exceeds all state operations, safety and licensing standards for child day centers.
  • Support curriculum‑based lesson plans and activities that are creative, engaging, age‑appropriate and promote STEAM, literacy, health and safety, environmental awareness and character development.
  • Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures outlined in the parent/guardian and employee handbooks.
  • Attend school and community events (including occasional weekends and evenings) to promote programs and the Armed Services YMCA of Fort Campbell.
  • Teach assigned classes in the designated location and times, creating a classroom environment that encourages student participation and achievement of learning objectives.
  • Communicate curriculum goals clearly, establish objectives for lessons, units and projects, and align them with student needs and developmental knowledge.
  • Use varied instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques to motivate students and help them reach learning objectives.
  • Maintain safety by taking precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by law, ASYMCA policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Assist in implementing policies and rules governing student conduct and develop classroom behavior procedures.
  • Be available to students and parents for education‑related matters outside the instructional day when required.
  • Build respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community members.
  • Participate in teacher and Early Learning Director assignments, appraise effectiveness and pursue professional growth.
  • Dress professionally, wear the ASYMCA name badge, and represent the YMCA responsibly.
  • Log work hours daily using the ADP electronic time card for supervisor approval.
  • Attend staff meetings as required and perform other duties as needed.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Preferred qualifications include:
    • Six credits in early childhood education or development and six months of teaching experience.
    • Three credits in ECE or ECD and one year of teaching experience.
    • A national competency‑based credential such as Certified Childcare Professional (CCP) or Child Development Associate (CDA) and one year of teaching experience.
Additional Requisites
  • Complete background/drug checks and comply with Virginia Department of Social Services licensing requirements.
  • Knowledge of curriculum integration, ASYMCA policies and effective instructional practices.
  • Thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process.
  • Ability to incorporate multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
  • Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, parents and community.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Basic understanding of technology (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of the military lifestyle and community social services agencies is a plus.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, move, climb, carry, bend, kneel, crawl, reach, handle, push and pull as required, including lifting up to 55 pounds, use stairs and spend at least 60 minutes outdoors daily. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.
