Student Support Services / Guidance Counselor
Position PurposeThe Elementary School Guidance Counselor provides a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes the academic and social-emotional development of all students. The counselor collaborates with students, families, teachers, administrators, and community agencies to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment while helping students develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary for lifelong success.
Essential Performance Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with state standards and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model.
- Deliver classroom guidance lessons focused on social-emotional learning, academic success, conflict resolution, decision‑making, character development, and personal safety.
- Provide individual and small‑group counseling to address students' academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs.
- Utilize data to identify student needs, monitor progress, and evaluate counseling program effectiveness.
- Assist students in developing positive interpersonal relationships, self‑awareness, self‑management, and responsible decision‑making skills.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to identify and support students experiencing academic, behavioral, attendance, or emotional concerns.
- Participate in developing intervention plans and monitor student progress through Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI) processes.
- Support students during transitions into elementary school and between grade levels.
- Collaborate with teachers to support student achievement and social-emotional growth.
- Consult with parents and guardians regarding student development and available support services.
- Participate in Student Support Team meetings, Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings, Section 504 meetings, and other collaborative planning meetings as appropriate.
- Maintain effective communication with families regarding student needs while protecting confidentiality.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
