I. SummaryMechanical Engineers and Associates operate under general supervision, applying their technical expertise to develop innovative solutions or enhance existing methods, processes, and products. Key responsibilities include contributing to the planning, execution, and evaluation of strategies designed to achieve project objectives efficiently and cost-effectively. An Engineer is a licensed professional who has obtained a Professional Engineer (PE) certification, demonstrating advanced competency and legal authority to practice engineering.
An Associate is an individual who has earned an accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering but has not yet achieved PE licensure. Associates may also have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination as part of their progression toward professional licensure.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Core Function
- Perform engineering tasks and work with designers to produce projects in design.
- Assist Construction Administration representatives in reviewing submittals and answering questions from projects in the field.
- Working knowledge of miscellaneous office equipment technology such as phones, copiers, plotters, scanners and computers.
- Willingness to accept responsibility and accountability.
- On time and dependable.
- Keep accurate records of billable time and submits timesheets on time.
- Completes tasks thoroughly and on time.
- Effectively understand and can reiterate technical information.
- Understand and follows company structure.
- Understands and follows department standards and procedures.
- Understand floor plans, sections, details and architectural concepts.
- Work within multi-discipline project teams to develop drawing and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors and building owners.
- Proactively communicate any concerns, problems or technical decisions that impact the project.
- Offer solutions and value engineering where required.
- Participate in company technical training to gain understanding of process and knowledge of field.
- Collaboration on projects to develop a plan for actions required to meet deadlines.
- Creating, organizing and plotting construction sets for issuance to the field.
- Preparation and modification of engineering drawings using computer-aided systems such as Auto Cad or Revit. Modification includes complex drawing cleanup, in depth mechanical calculations and mechanical distribution setup.
- Active and participating member in a professional organization or society.
- Typical systems designed at this level are packaged and terminal equipment, variable and constant volume air distribution including ductwork routing and sizing and air device selection and sizing.
