Title: Lead Mechanical Engineer/Associate (Plumbing & Fire Protection Focus)

Reports To: Team Leader of Mechanical Engineering Department

I. Summary

Lead Mechanical Engineers and Associates are responsible for the development of air distribution systems, single line control diagrams, load studies and analysis as well as equipment selection. Responsibilities include assisting with planning, conducting and evaluating approaches to meet project objectives in a timely, cost-effective fashion.

An Engineer is a licensed professional who has obtained a Professional Engineer (PE) certification, demonstrating advanced competency and legal authority to practice engineering. An Associate is an individual who has earned an accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering but has not yet achieved PE licensure. Associates may also have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination as part of their progression toward professional licensure.

Core

Function
  • Perform engineering tasks and work with engineers and designers to produce projects in design.
  • Review Plumbing and Fire Protection designs per QC/QA standards.
  • Assist CA representative in reviewing submittals and answering questions from projects in the field.
General

  • Able to keep accurate records of billable time.
  • Able to submit timesheets in a timely manner.
  • Able to use and understand office equipment technology such as phones, copiers, plotters, scanners and computers.

  • Able to provide valued engineering suggestions.
  • Able to use conference room equipment to run meetings (video, conference calls, Lync, etc.)
  • Able to delegate tasks to support staff.
Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineering
  • Perform basic plumbing and fire protection drafting with minimal direction.
  • Create and print drawings.
  • Draft plumbing and fire protection based on comments and markups.
  • Draft and digitize plumbing and fire protection existing conditions.
  • Draft, digitize, and convert plumbing and fire protection field notes to CAD.
  • Assist with plumbing and fire protection drawing and document template management.
  • Understand basic plumbing and fire protection principals used in design.
  • Layout basic domestic water, hot water, waste and vent, storm, natural gas, medical gas, and sprinkler head systems.
  • Use AutoCAD and Revit design software.
  • Edit simple stick on specifications.
  • Assist with RFI review and response.
  • Assist with change order review and response.
  • Attend Plumbing and Fire Protection department meetings.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Plumbing and Fire Protection codes.
  • Follow and work with design checklists.
  • Follow and work with review checklists.
