Position Purpose
The Non-CDL Driver at SRS Building Products ensures safe, accurate, and timely delivery of building materials to job sites, focusing on contractors. This role supports branch operations, verifies order accuracy, performs vehicle inspections, and upholds safety standards while providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure safe and timely delivery of building materials, strictly following company safety protocols and route plans.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, documenting maintenance needs.
- Accurately verify and manage inventory during loading and unloading to guarantee correct delivery quantities and prevent damage.
- Use forklifts safely for loading/unloading, optimizing workflow and maintaining material integrity.
- Engage professionally with customers on-site, addressing queries with courtesy and efficiency.
- Maintain regular communication with managers and team members for seamless operations and prompt resolution of logistical challenges.
- Document delivery processes meticulously, including photographic evidence.
This position typically reports to the Assistant Branch Manager or Operations Manager and usually has no direct reports.
Travel RequirementsPrimarily local travel with occasional long-distance excursions within state boundaries.
Physical Requirements- Physically fit to load, unload, and sit for long periods while driving.
- Capable of lifting and moving materials weighing up to 100 pounds consistently.
- Handle repetitive tasks involving building products such as shingles.
- Operate vehicles and equipment safely in varied weather conditions.
Independent on-the-road work in various weather conditions, with physical tasks and variable shifts.
Minimum Qualifications- At least 21 years old (18 minimum for employment).
- Valid non-CDL driver’s license with a clean record (no DUIs in 3 years, no suspensions in 5 years, max 2 violations/accidents in 18 months).
- U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S. (E-Verify required).
- Pass a drug test, background check, and hold a current DOT medical card for vehicles 10,001 lbs+.
- Demonstrated ability to lift and move heavy materials.
- Delivery driving experience with knowledge of DOT regulations.
- Strong understanding of building materials, especially roofing products.
- Forklift operation experience; certification is a plus.
- Skilled in GPS and routing software for efficient deliveries.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Independent, self-managed, and time-efficient in fast-paced settings.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Problem-solving abilities to handle delivery and logistics issues.
- Committed to safety and company policies.
- Comfortable using mobile devices and company apps.
- Willing to participate in ongoing training and development.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred EducationSome level of vocational training or courses in fleet management.
Minimum Years Of Work Experience1-2 years of professional driving experience.
Certifications- DOT Medical Certificate (mandatory for trucks registered at 10,001 lbs or more).
- Forklift certification (preferred).
- Strict adherence to safety protocols during material handling and vehicle operation.
- Effective verbal and written communication with customers and team members.
- Strong organizational skills for managing delivery schedules and inventory.
- Proficiency in operating forklifts and conducting vehicle inspections.
- Customer service focused, addressing needs promptly and courteously.
- Problem-solving skills to resolve delivery challenges swiftly.
