Job Summary
The Maintenance Foreperson directs and performs skilled maintenance work in the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of campus facilities. This position is responsible for planning and scheduling daily and weekly maintenance activities and assigning work to maintenance technicians within the Facilities Maintenance Department. The Foreperson also assists in developing, implementing, and monitoring preventive maintenance programs for the campus facilities.
This full‑time, 12‑month position reports to the Assistant Director for Facilities Operations and is subject to evening hours, weekends, and emergency call‑outs.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assist the Assistant Director for Facilities Operations with ensuring that all facilities are well maintained and safe by planning and scheduling daily and weekly maintenance activities.
- Identify and implement energy‑saving measures in campus facilities.
- Assure completion of assigned maintenance and repair tasks by monitoring work progress, inspecting work performance, and providing corrections of any deficiencies.
- Perform highly skilled maintenance as needed in the installation, operation, maintenance, modification of building systems.
- Ensure maintenance personnel have the equipment and supplies necessary to perform their duties.
- Promote preventive maintenance as a strategy to maintain campus facilities.
- Reduce likelihood of significant disruption of MEP services and assure around‑the‑clock responsiveness to system failures or emergencies.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Five (5) years supervisory experience in maintenance, repair, renovation, or operation of educational, commercial, or industrial facilities.
- Technical knowledge of maintenance equipment.
- Knowledge and understanding of troubleshooting MEP systems.
- Supervisory skills, administrative ability, and computer literacy.
- Ability to lift and transport materials and equipment up to 50 pounds frequently; ability to stand, bend, stoop, and reach daily.
- Valid driver’s license.
- EPA Type III certification.
- Eight (8) years relevant work experience.
- Experience with building automation systems.
- Completion of a journey‑level program in a maintenance trade.
Indoor, outdoor, office, and shop environments; driving from site to site; subject to adverse weather conditions, noise from equipment operation, nights and weekend work, and call‑outs for emergencies. The position is designated as essential personnel who must report to work as scheduled when university offices are closed due to severe weather or other situations.
SupervisionThe Maintenance Foreperson supervises technicians assigned to the Facilities Maintenance Department and other personnel as required.
