Job Description

We’re looking for a dependable Chemical Technician to support MPW operations through the safe handling, transportation, processing, and disposal of industrial chemicals and waste materials. This advanced technician role requires strong technical knowledge, forklift operation experience, and a commitment to safety, compliance, and environmental responsibility.

Must have experience and certifications working with chemicals - driving forklift.

What You’ll Do
  • Safely handle, transfer, package, transport, and process industrial chemicals and waste materials.
  • Operate forklifts and material handling equipment to load, unload, move, and stage chemical containers and waste products.
  • Inspect drums, totes, tanks, and containers to ensure proper labeling, storage, and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform chemical consolidation, segregation, sampling, and waste characterization activities as directed.
  • Ensure hazardous and non-hazardous materials are managed according to environmental regulations and company procedures.
  • Assist with chemical inventory management, container tracking, and material documentation.
  • Prepare waste shipments and disposal paperwork while maintaining accurate records.
  • Monitor storage areas for leaks, spills, damaged containers, or other environmental concerns.
  • Respond to chemical spills and emergency situations using established response procedures and required PPE.
  • Conduct routine inspections of equipment, storage locations, and work areas to identify potential safety hazards.
  • Operate pumps, hoses, transfer systems, and related equipment used in chemical handling operations.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, customers, and team members to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and compliant work areas at all times.
  • Complete daily reports, manifests, inspection forms, inventory logs, and other required documentation.
  • Assist with training and mentoring less experienced technicians on safe chemical handling practices.
  • Follow all MPW policies, environmental procedures, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Support additional operational activities and special projects as assigned.
What You’ll Need
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training, environmental experience, or chemical handling experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with industrial chemicals, hazardous waste, environmental services, manufacturing operations, or related industries preferred.
  • Valid forklift certification or ability to successfully complete company forklift training and certification requirements.
  • Working knowledge of chemical safety practices, SDS documentation, labeling requirements, and waste management procedures preferred.
  • Ability to accurately complete manifests, shipping documents, inspection reports, inventory records, and other compliance-related documentation.
  • Ability to safely lift and move up to 40 pounds, operate forklifts and material handling equipment, and perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, climbing, and working around industrial equipment during 8–12 hour shifts.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor industrial environments with exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, weather conditions, and required PPE, including respiratory protection when necessary.
  • Ability to travel between customer locations and job sites as needed and work flexible schedules including overtime, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts.
