Job Summary

The Solar Support Technician will be responsible for connectivity of existing photovoltaic arrays to power-driven devices and provide load profile recommendations. The candidate should have a background in photovoltaic installation, electrical grid interconnection, and experience in reading and interpreting Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) records.

Major Duties
  • Photovoltaic installation & electrical connectivity
  • Understanding of utility grid interconnectivity
  • Monitor photovoltaic system for performance issues
  • Assess SCADA monitoring & data collection
  • Diagnose and repair photovoltaic system malfunctions
  • Assist with reporting on project activities (virtual)
  • Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands / Work Environment
  • The employee is frequently required to reach/operate with hands and arms.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds (assistance will be provided).
  • Must be comfortable working around high-voltage systems.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must frequently stand or sit for extended periods and lift objects on occasions.
Working Conditions
  • Work will take place at one solar demonstration site location.
  • Workdays will take place on weekdays & occasional weekends (if maintenance is required).
  • Working outdoors (under shed) in various climates, hot and cold – occasionally.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Technical training in electrical technology, renewable energy systems and industrial maintenance.
  • Understanding of AC/DC power systems and high voltage systems.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to use testing tools (e.g., multimeters).
Preferred Qualifications
  • NABCEP certification (e.g., PV Installation Professional).
  • State Electrical License.
