Position Overview
IS4S is seeking an experienced Senior Principal Electrical Engineer with over 15 years of experience to serve as a technical lead in the development of advanced defense technologies. This individual will act as the primary architect for complex electrical systems, overseeing the full-spectrum design, integration, and qualification of high-reliability PWA/CCAs and ruggedized interconnects for critical Department of Defense (DoD) programs.
The ideal candidate is a technical authority capable of bridging the gap between high-level system requirements and detailed hardware implementation while mentoring junior engineering staff.
Key Responsibilities- System Architecture & Strategy: Architect high-complexity electrical systems and sub-systems, ensuring hardware designs align with overarching mission requirements and long-term technology roadmaps.
- Design Oversight & Peer Review: Lead technical design reviews (PDR, CDR) and provide expert-level oversight of schematic capture, PCB layout, and component selection for high-speed digital and precision analog systems.
- Advanced Interconnect Engineering: Drive the strategy for complex, ruggedized cable and harness architectures, ensuring survivability in extreme military environments and adherence to strict size, weight, and power (SWaP) constraints.
- Test & Qualification Strategy: Define and lead comprehensive verification and validation (V&V) plans. This includes overseeing EMI/EMC testing, environmental qualification, and hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) integration.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Serve as the primary technical liaison between mechanical, software, and systems engineering teams to resolve complex multi-disciplinary integration challenges.
- Mentorship & Standards: Establish and maintain internal engineering best practices, design standards, and documentation protocols. Act as a dedicated mentor to junior and mid-level electrical engineers.
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET-accredited institution;
Master’s (MSEE) or PhD preferred. - Experience: 15+ years of progressive experience in electrical hardware design within the aerospace, defense, or national security sectors.
- SME-Level Circuit Design: Mastery of low-noise analog design, power electronics, and high-speed digital interfaces (e.g., PCIe, DDR4, FPGA integration).
- Regulatory & MIL-STD Expertise: Deep, practical knowledge of MIL-STD-461 (EMI/EMC), MIL-STD-810 (Environmental), and IPC-2221/2222 standards.
- Tool Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in EDA suites (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro) with a focus on signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) analysis.
- Hardware Lifecycle Management: Demonstrated experience taking multiple high-reliability products from initial concept through production and field deployment.
- Security: Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
