Psychiatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Opportunity
Emerald Coast Behavioral Hospital provides inpatient treatment services to adolescents and adults at our 86-bed facility in Panama City, FL and outpatient services to adolescents and adults at our four outpatient centers located throughout the Florida Panhandle. Additionally, we offer specialized treatment for active duty military members through our Military Resiliency Program, specialized chemical dependency treatment and TMS therapy for chronic depression.

The Psychiatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) oversees the quality of care delivered to assigned patients with supervising psychiatrist. Performs medical assessments for individuals under his/her care. Completes documentation necessary to address patients hospitalized under civil commitment statutes. Provides individual therapy, family therapy and/or medication management as needed for patients. Appropriately requests consultation when indicated.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provides direct clinical services for psychiatric patients according to established protocols and utilizes evidence‑based clinical practice standards under the supervision of the supervising physician.
- Functions independently to perform individual assessments, diagnostic functions, specialized risk assessments, and make critical decisions regarding a wide variety of health situations, including high risk and crisis situations.
- Obtains patient health histories and completes examinations. Orders, performs and interprets lab and diagnostic imaging studies. Diagnoses and treats acute health problems. Provides health maintenance, screenings and referrals.
- Provides counseling to promote healthy lifestyles and arranges consultations and referrals. Collaborates with physicians and other health care professionals as needed. Documents examination results, noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings and ensures accuracy of notes on patient medical records.
- Explains the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient’s family, or staff. Performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient’s clinical status. Adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
- Prescribes, manages, and supervises medication treatment for psychiatric conditions. May prescribe controlled substances as stipulated in Florida statute and within the framework of established supervisory protocol.
- May initiate or rescind involuntary admissions within the framework of established supervisory protocol and the Baker Act.
- Provides quality assurance review through monitoring accuracy and comprehensiveness of patient records. Evaluates hospital records, other psychiatric reports and related data.
- May assess patients and order restraint/seclusion as outlined in policy and consistent with state and federal law.
- Provides preventative health care services to long‑term patients and provides consultations and referrals for psychiatric evaluations.
- Provides Outpatient Clinic coverage and Emergency Room Consultation and Med/Surg Inpatient Hospital Consultation Services as directed.
- Complies with all Medical Staff Bylaws, Medical Staff Rules and Regulations, and facility policies.
