Position: Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Med-Surg)

A 267-bed hospital in Fort Walton Beach is seeking a Registered Nurse to join its Medical‑Surgical unit. This facility offers a wide range of services, including an Advanced Primary Stroke Center, Cancer Care Center, open‑heart surgery, a main emergency department, pediatric ER, and additional freestanding emergency facilities.

Position Overview

The Med‑Surg RN provides comprehensive, patient-centered care to hospitalized adults with a variety of medical and surgical conditions. This role requires strong assessment skills, attention to detail, and the ability to respond quickly to changes in patient status while working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary care team.

The RN is also responsible for educating patients and families throughout the care process, ensuring they understand diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and discharge instructions in clear, accessible language.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed patient assessments at admission and throughout each shift.
  • Identify and communicate changes in patient condition promptly to the care team.
  • Carry out physician‑ordered treatments, procedures, and monitoring.
  • Administer medications and evaluate patient response to therapies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the medical record.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on diagnoses, medications, side effects, and follow‑up care.
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care.
  • Promote patient safety and high‑quality clinical outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of RN experience required (acute care experience not required).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Strong communication, assessment, and clinical judgment skills.
Schedule
  • Day shift or night shift available
  • Rotating weekends required
