general job summary:
the ground robotics installer for autonomous vehicle technologies is responsible for integrating electro-mechanical control systems, sensors, and associated cabling into a wide range of ground vehicles-including medium- and heavy-duty trucks, utility vehicles, and class 8 tractor-trailers-at micro systems facilities or customer sites. This role supports the conversion of conventional vehicles into unmanned, leader-follower, and remotely operated platforms by applying disciplined installation practices, safety procedures, and hands-on fabrication skills.
this position is ideal for candidates with deep experience in custom automotive electronics integration, especially those who have built one-off solutions, fabricated mounting hardware, and executed clean, reliable wiring in complex environments. Backgrounds in high-end 12-volt systems, custom enclosures, power distribution, and vehicle modification translate directly to the electrical integration, mechanical adaptation, and problem-solving required for early-stage autonomous vehicle system installations.
We are seeking someone who goes beyond basic stereo installation-someone who has created custom solutions, adapted components to unique vehicle geometries, and taken ownership of full-system integration challenges.
essential job functions:
- work independently or as a team to convert conventional ground vehicles, typically medium to large utility trucks and tractor-trailers, from manned to unmanned operation by installing the company's proprietary electro-mechanical control system hardware using a wide array of hand and power tools.
- fabricate custom mounting solutions, brackets, enclosures, and equipment racks to house electronic control system components within vehicle platforms.
- cut and drill into sheet metal, plastic, and composite materials as required to facilitate installation of hardware while striving to be minimally invasive and avoiding collateral damage to the greatest extent possible.
- route electrical cables and wiring harnesses, manage power distribution across multiple system components, connect and adjust mechanical linkages, mount brackets and electronic enclosures, and install all other associated parts and components in a neat and organized manner.
- support control system integration, signal verification, and testing after the installation process.
- communicate technical information effectively, both written and verbally, with other engineering personnel.
- capture and record installation procedures in a comprehensive and cohesive manner such that other personnel may be able to duplicate and repeat the installation process as documented.
- travel to customer sites to perform vehicle surveys, system installations, and support follow-on testing as needed, oftentimes outdoors, for a span of a few days…
