The Fort Walton Beach Housing Authority (FWBHA) has been serving the Fort Walton Beach and Okaloosa County community since 1968. We provide safe, affordable housing and rental assistance to families, seniors, and veterans through programs such as Public Housing, Housing Choice Vouchers, and Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH). What We Are Looking For :

We are seeking a reliable and skilled Maintenance Mechanic to perform a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks for Authority properties, including residential units, buildings, grounds, and equipment. This role ensures all properties are safe, well‑maintained, and compliant with HUD, OSHA, and FWBHA standards.

The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with building systems, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work. Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to safety, and the ability to respond promptly to both routine and emergency needs are essential.

In this role, you will:
  • Perform general building, mechanical, and grounds maintenance, including carpentry, painting, masonry, plumbing, and electrical work.
  • Maintain HVAC systems, plumbing fixtures, electrical systems, appliances, and mechanical equipment in safe working order.
  • Complete unit turnovers, including cleaning, painting, and repairs, to ensure readiness for occupancy.
  • Respond to after‑hours emergency calls as scheduled.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on building systems, surfaces, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Repair and install doors, windows, cabinets, flooring, roofs, gutters, downspouts, and other structural elements.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and plumbing systems, including outlets, switches, fixtures, water heaters, and drains.
  • Inspect playgrounds, parking lots, and common areas to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inventory, and supplies.
  • Interact with residents courteously and professionally while addressing maintenance concerns.
What You Need:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in construction, property maintenance, or related trade work.
  • Completion of HUD Uniform Physical Condition Standards (UPCS) training within 18 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry repair methods.
  • Skilled in the safe use of hand and power tools, with strong attention to safety.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with residents, staff, and vendors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and property management software (e.g., PHA‑Web or similar).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally between properties.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs., climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
