Position: Registered Nurse (RN), Bridge Program, Emergency Department

Fort Washington Medical Center seeks to hire an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for our Emergency Department Bridge Program. Existing Adventist Health Care employees, please apply through your Workday account.

Candidates selected for this opportunity must satisfy all Registered Nurse II (RN II) requirements. Following completion of the five‑week Emergency Care Bridge Program, the position will continue as a full‑time staff role assigned to either the day or night shift in the department.

Objective

To provide the necessary Emergency Department instruction through a 5‑week Bridge Training Program designed for newly recruited nurses to build competence, confidence, and readiness for a role in the Emergency Department. Includes 4 weeks of classroom‑based lectures/discussions and 1 week of practical, hands‑on training.

5‑Week Program Overview
  • Understanding of hospital organizational structure, ethical/legal aspects, and effective teamwork.
  • Strong communication, reporting, and documentation skills with patients, families, and health teams.
  • Delivery of promotive, preventive, and emergency nursing care using the nursing process.
  • Safe medication administration across routes; dosage and drug calculations; identification of common/emergency drug actions and side effects.
  • Standards for blood donation, transfusion practices, sampling, blood grouping, and waste management.
  • Application of current trends and technologies in patient care.
Training Methodology
  • Conduct pre‑evaluation/knowledge and skill assessment on the selected topics of the participants.
  • Planned trainings according to gaps in knowledge and practice, based on standard, vetted and sourced modules.
  • Imparting theoretical and practical hands‑on training (through demonstration and return demonstration) to nurses on the modules.
  • Covering course curriculum on a modular basis.
  • Daily monitoring and follow‑up to identify learning gaps.
  • Conducting post‑test evaluation after the completion of the training program.
  • As a Registered Nurse (RN) you will
    • Educate patients and family through the continuum of care while also striving to advance their own knowledge and skills through careful consideration of feedback and guidance provided by more senior nurses and the Clinical Nurse Manager.
    • Serve as role models to Level I nurses and use electronic resources to support best practices in patient care.
    • Demonstrate professionalism, adhere to ANA standards of practice, and exemplify the Adventist Health Care values as they fulfill our nursing mission and vision.
    • Use equipment and technology correctly, delegate non‑nursing duties appropriately, and maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Develop a plan of care according to patient population.
    • Identify impending changes in patient condition accurately and initiate corrective action.
    • Mentor students, colleagues and team members in patient‑centered care.
    • Conduct purposeful rounding from patient and family perspective.
    • Conduct efficient literature searches and apply findings appropriately to practice.
    • Identify opportunities for improvement in clinical care and participate in change of practice based on evidence.
    Qualifications
    • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
    • Passing score on NCLEX.
    • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required.
    • Current Maryland State nursing license.
    • Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
    • ACLS, PALS, NRP as required by specialty area.
    Work Schedule

    Full time – 40 hours per week, day or night shift.
