SJCA, Inc., a leading civil engineering firm with offices across Indiana, is seeking a driven and relationship-focused Business Development Coordinator to expand our presence in the Fort Wayne region. Position OverviewThe Business Development Coordinator is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and securing new business opportunities with Local Public Agencies (LPAs) throughout Northeast Indiana. This role strengthens SJCA’s market position through strategic outreach, relationship building, and informed pursuit planning.
Key Responsibilities- Build and maintain strong relationships with LPA stakeholders, influencers, and decision makers.
- Identify, develop, and qualify new business opportunities within counties, cities, and towns.
- Track LPA budgets and monitor upcoming projects aligned with SJCA’s services.
- Conduct research to uncover project opportunities and gather relevant intelligence.
- Develop working knowledge of civil engineering project types and apply product knowledge to business development efforts.
- Analyze current LPA consultant usage and identify opportunities to influence future selections.
- Provide internal recommendations on project pursuits, including go/no-go decisions.
- Maintain professional relationships with competitive firms to support potential teaming opportunities.
- Study competitor strategies and identify areas for SJCA to strengthen its market position.
- Assess risks and opportunities within each LPA and communicate findings internally.
- Coordinate meetings, assist with project scoping, and prepare accurate, timely proposals.
- Ensure all business development deliverables are complete, compliant, and error‑free.
- Support SJCA’s reputation by taking ownership of project development activities.
- Maintain a non-partisan approach when interacting with LPAs.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong relationship‑building, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- High level of organization, follow‑through, and attention to detail.
- Effective time management and schedule planning abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong motivation for sales with proven prospecting and closing abilities.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, communication, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of business development experience, including cold lead prospecting.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- A/E/C industry experience and market knowledge preferred.
