Detailer
The Detailer supports the design and fabrication of structural steel joist and deck building systems by transforming customer drawings into detailed manufacturing plans using AutoCAD 2D. This role spends approximately half of the time producing precise detail drawings and the other half coordinating with internal teams and customers to resolve design issues and ensure successful project delivery. The position is part of the joist and deck design team based in Fort Wayne, IN, working on multiple projects at various stages and using a proprietary AutoCAD add-in that will be taught during training.
Responsibilities- Review customer drawings and specifications and convert them into simplified, accurate detail drawings using AutoCAD 2D.
- Develop complete manufacturing plans for structural steel joist and deck systems to ensure products can be fabricated and delivered according to customer requirements.
- Use a proprietary AutoCAD 2D add-in (training provided) to support efficient and standardized detailing processes.
- Work on 5–6 projects simultaneously at different stages of completion, managing priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams, including team leads, checkers, and other detailers, to review drawings and ensure quality and accuracy.
- Coordinate with customers and fabrication plants throughout the design approval process, addressing questions, clarifications, and design changes as needed.
- Assist with problem solving related to structural loads, connections, and decking design to ensure safe and efficient structures.
- Participate in drawing reviews with the team lead and checker to verify compliance with standards, accuracy, and constructability.
- Support project delivery by tracking progress, meeting project deadlines, and maintaining organized documentation for each project.
- Engage in training and development activities by reworking completed projects to learn the company's detailing standards, processes, and project management approach.
- Adapt quickly to changing day-to-day tasks and priorities, contributing to a collaborative and flexible team environment.
- Maintain high levels of accuracy and quality in all drawings and documentation and be accountable to defined metrics and performance expectations.
- Provide and receive constructive feedback within the team to continuously improve processes, quality, and efficiency.
- Demonstrate strong organization and multitasking skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines without compromising quality.
- AutoCAD drafting experience within a related industry such as construction, building design, or structural detailing.
- Ability to create detailed 2D drawings and convert customer drawings into clear, buildable plans.
- Understanding of structural loads and connections, including the ability to review decking design drawings and connection details.
- Familiarity with design approval processes and experience working with clients or fabrication plants through approval cycles.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
- Flexibility to adjust quickly to changing priorities and day-to-day tasks while maintaining collaboration with team members.
- Comfort with being held accountable to metrics, results, and the accuracy and quality of drawings.

Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with joist and/or decking design in a structural steel environment.
- Any prior experience working with structural steel joist and deck systems.
- Experience in leadership, mentoring, or training within a drafting or detailing team.
