Harrison Hill | Mild Mental Disability Special Education Assistant

PURPOSE

Assist teachers with instructional, clerical, student management, and daily life activities for special education students in special education or general classrooms.

  Shifts typically occur within 7:15 am to 3:30 pm; exact times may vary.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Prefer candidates with previous experience working with students with special needs.
• Flexible to meet changing needs of students.
• Strong tutorial, oral and written communication skills.
• Can relate well with students, staff, and parents.
• Strong desire to help young people succeed, positive attitude, capable of completing tasks independently.
• Knowledge of child guidance principles, basic instructional methods, and techniques.
• Willingness to supervise students in community settings.
• Participation in training provided by the Special Education Department.

• Two years of college experience from an accredited college.
• Two-year college degree from an accredited college.
• Passed the Para-Pro Assessment.
• One year or 1,000 hours of previous employment in a school or working with children.
• Passed annual school-level evaluations.
• Completed 48 credit hours of college-level classes from an accredited college.
• Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials.
