CAS: ACJC | Mild Mental Disability Special Education Assistant

Responsibilities

Assist teachers with a variety of instructional, clerical, student management, and daily life activities for special education students in special education or general classrooms.

  Shifts typically occur within the hours of 7:15 am and 3:30 pm, with exact start and end times varying based on school needs and allocated hours.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Preference for candidates with previous experience working with students with special needs.
• Flexible to meet the changing needs of students and strong tutorial skills.
• Ability to relate well with students, staff, and parents.
• Strong desire to see young people succeed and possess a positive attitude.
• Independent completion of tasks.
• Strong office computer and oral/written communication skills.
• Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices and basic instructional methods and techniques.
• Willingness to supervise students in community settings.
• Participation in training provided by the Special Education Department.
