Job Description: Assist in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of middle or high school students during study hall activities; assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects in various subject areas.

Graduation from high school supplemented by sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities required to provide general study hall and instructional assistance. Must have strong office, computer, and oral and written communication skills. Incumbents must possess knowledge of child guidance principles and practices, general instructional methods and techniques, and basic subjects taught in District schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language, and reading.

• Assist in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of middle or high school students during study hall activities; monitor and oversee practices and assignments in various subjects; confer with faculty concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs.
• Assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects in various subject areas; assure student understanding of study hall rules and procedures; assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance.
• Observe and control behavior of students in the study hall according to established policies and procedures; monitor and report progress regarding student performance and behavior.
• Explain and assure student understanding of classroom assignments and homework instructions; assist students in studying and preparing for tests as needed.
• Maintain various records and files related to students and assigned activities as required; take and record student attendance as directed.
• Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; maintain classroom and other assigned areas in a safe, orderly and clean manner.
• Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.

Employee is regularly required to speak and hear; has dexterity of hands and fingers; must sit or stand for extended periods; may occasionally be required to bend at the waist, kneel, or crouch. Specific vision abilities include close vision and ability to adjust focus. May need to lift, carry and/or push students in wheelchairs; frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
