Position: Nursing Adjunct (Fort Wayne)

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Program Director of the academic program, adjunct faculty receive a contract or letter stating adjunct employment with a primary responsibility in teaching. Faculty members assess, plan, implement and evaluate instruction for students in clinical and classroom settings or laboratories in coordination with established course and program objectives.

Major Responsibilities/Activities Teaching & Related Activities Responsibilities
  • Teach courses consistent with the catalog description and content map
  • Teach assigned classes at the scheduled time and place and meets required contact hours
  • Integrate evidence-based practice in fulfilling all roles of faculty practice
  • Collaborate with colleagues for instructional improvement via professional peer review
  • Submit reports and requests for information promptly
  • Fulfill the Code of Ethics of the university and for the profession
  • Teach students using appropriate methodologies to facilitate student classroom and/or clinical learning experiences
  • Create an effective learning environment for students
  • Effectively communicate with students
  • Facilitate critical reflection and support innovation in students
  • Provide timely feedback and fairly evaluate students’ progress
  • Evaluate student clinical, laboratory and classroom performance and provide individual counsel and guidance as necessary to promote student success
  • Propose plans to improve students’ performance
  • Maintain appropriate records such as clinical evaluations, test scores, anecdotal notes and attendance on an ongoing basis to document evidence of student progress

Assignments may be adjusted for special assignments at the discretion of the Program Director.

Minimum Qualifications Education
  • Master’s degree in nursing or plan in progress and completion within five years of date of hire required
  • Doctorate in nursing preferred
  • Certification in specialty area preferred
Licensure/Certification
  • A current Indiana RN license required
Experience
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in the discipline
  • Prior teaching experience in clinical or classroom setting preferred
Requirements for all School of Health Sciences faculty engaged in clinical instruction
  • Current TB testing
  • Current CPR certification
  • Documentation of Hepatitis B immunization
  • Other requirements as specified by clinical facilities
Knowledge and Skills
  • Competence in educational principles and techniques used in higher education classrooms, laboratory and clinical settings
  • Knowledge of the profession including theory and practice, procedures, and regulations
  • Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community
