Instructional Assistant

The instructional assistant will support student learning using Montessori materials and district models in small group and one-on-one instruction. Successful candidate must be able to sit on the floor with students during some activities. This person shall support procedures, policies, and discipline within the classroom and building.

Candidate must have a high school diploma or GED. Prefer experience working with Montessori program; counseling and computer skills helpful and must have a strong desire to see students succeed. Must have a sincere concern for youth, a strong work ethic and the ability to positively motivate students.

If selected for an interview, candidate must provide proof of education at time of interview (official transcripts and/or Para Pro results)

Essential functions include: assisting a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment; monitoring and overseeing student drills, practices and assignments in various subjects; providing instructional support to various teachers; assisting students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects in various subject areas; performing a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities;

assisting teachers with implementing lesson plans; observing and controlling behavior of students in the classroom; reading books to students and observing their reading abilities; providing classroom support to the teacher; assuring the health and safety of students; and performing related duties as assigned by the administrator.

New employees must successfully complete their probationary period to be eligible to apply for posted positions. Employees must remain in their current position a minimum of sixty (60) calendar days to be eligible to apply for any non-lateral posted position. Current non-probationary employees may only apply for lateral positions at the end of each school year.

While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is seated or walking  incumbent will be required to lift, carry and/or push students weighing 25 pounds or more in wheelchairs as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
