Job Description

PURPOSE – Assist teachers with a variety of instructional, clerical, student management, and daily life activities for special education students in special education or general classrooms.

  • Work Hours: Shifts typically within 7:15 am to 3:30 pm; exact start and end times may vary.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidate must have a high school diploma or GED. Experience working with students with special needs is preferred. Must be flexible, strong tutorial and communication skills, able to relate well with students, staff, and parents, demonstrate a strong desire to see youths succeed, maintain a positive attitude, complete tasks independently, and possess knowledge of child guidance principles, basic instructional methods, and techniques.

Must be willing to supervise students in community settings and participate in training provided by the Special Education Department.

Prefer candidate to be highly‑qualified. The paraprofessional can be determined for highly‑qualified if they have:

  • Two years of college experience from an accredited college
  • A two‑year college degree from an accredited college
  • Passed the Para‑Pro Assessment
  • One year or 1,000 hours of previous employment in a school or working with children
  • Passed annual school‑level evaluations
  • Completed 48 credit hours of college‑level classes from an accredited college
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials
Position Information

Salary: $15.51 – $18.64 per hour
