Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The instructional Assistant will support student learning using Montessori materials and district models in small group and one‑on‑one instruction. Successful candidate must be able to sit on the floor with students during some activities. This person shall support procedures, policies, and discipline within the classroom and building.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidate must have a high school diploma or GED. Preference for experience working with Montessori program; counseling and computer skills helpful and must have a strong desire to see students succeed. Must have a sincere concern for youth, a strong work ethic and the ability to positively motivate students.

Mandatory documentation: Must provide proof of education at time of interview (official transcripts and/or Para Pro results).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups; monitor student drills, practices, and assignments; provide instructional support to various teachers.

Assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects; answer questions; provide examples; give emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance.

Perform clerical duties: preparing, typing, duplicating, filing instructional materials; grading student tests and assignments; maintaining student records and files.

Assist teachers with implementing lesson plans; confer on lesson plans and materials to meet student needs; explain and ensure student understanding of classroom mandates.

Observe and control behavior of students according to procedures; monitor during outdoor and recess activities; report progress regarding performance and behavior.

Read books to students; observe reading abilities; assist in letter and word pronunciation, recognition; assist spelling and writing exercises.

Provide classroom support: preparing work areas, decorations, posters, displays; distributing and collecting paper, supplies and materials.

Assure health and safety of students by following procedures; keep classroom and other assigned areas safe, orderly, clean.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD:

Must successfully complete probationary period to be eligible for posted positions.
Must remain in current position at least sixty (60) calendar days to be eligible for non‑lateral posted positions.
Non‑probationary employees may only apply for lateral positions at the end of each school year.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands represented are required to successfully perform the essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities. Duties include speaking, hearing, dexterity of hands and fingers; sitting or standing for extended periods; bending at waist, kneeling or crouching; close vision; lifting, carrying, and/or pushing students weighing 25 pounds or more in wheelchairs; exposure to outside weather.

Position Type: Part‑Time

Salary: $15.01 to $18.14 Per Hour
