Saint Joseph | Moderate Mental Disability Special Education Assistant

Position Overview

Assist teachers with a variety of instructional clerical, student management, and daily life activities for special education students in special education or general classrooms.

• School year
• Shifts typically occur within the hours of 7:15 am to 3:30 pm. Exact start and end times may vary based on the needs of the school and the number of hours allocated for the position.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Preferred:
  Previous experience working with students with special needs.
• Strong tutorial skills and ability to relate well with students, staff, and parents.
• Strong desire to see young people succeed, positive attitude, ability to complete tasks independently.
• Strong office computer, oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of child guidance principles, basic instructional methods and techniques.
• Willingness to supervise students in community settings.
• Participation in training provided by the Special Education Department.

• Two years of college experience from an accredited college, or a two-year college degree.
• Passed the Para‑Pro Assessment.
• One year or 1,000 hours of previous employment in a school or working with children.
• Passed annual school-level evaluations.
• Completed 48 credit hours of college‑level classes from an accredited college.
• Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials.
