Ivy Tech Community College – Skills Training Instructor (Network Cabling & Fiber Optic Installation)

Ivy Tech Community College seeks a hands‑on, industry‑experienced Skills Training Instructor to launch and deliver a skills training program in network cabling and fiber optic installation. This is a full‑time instructional role responsible for teaching both the fiber optic installer and the network cable installation program within an intensive, cohort‑based model.

$55,000 to $65,000. Compensation will be commensurate with the requirements of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and education.

• Instruction and Curriculum Delivery – Deliver all phases of the eight‑week curriculum, including boot camp orientation, two‑week fiber optic training, and four‑week network cabling training; lead hands‑on, lab‑based instruction; manage cohort pacing and student engagement; prepare students for fiber optic installer certification and network cable installation written and hands‑on examinations; coordinate certification testing; support students for on‑site or off‑site testing; build and maintain course content in Canvas.
• Student Recruitment, Intake, and Success – Recruit and enroll students for each cohort; manage enrollment, intake documentation, and cohort rosters; support persistence and completion; track participant data and report to the Systems Office.
• Employer Engagement and Career Placement – Plan and coordinate the culminating employer fair; manage employer invitations, logistics, and student‑employer connections; coordinate with Career Link.
• Laboratory and Equipment Management – Maintain the campus training lab; manage equipment inventory and consumables; coordinate with campus facilities; maintain BICSI ATF compliance; identify equipment replacement needs and submit requests.
• Campus and Program Coordination – Work effectively with campus stakeholders; provide program content and student success stories; attend statewide program meetings; submit cohort reports and participate in program improvement discussions.
• General Faculty and Institutional Responsibilities – Maintain student records, attendance, grades, and documentation; manage a learning environment; comply with safety standards; use Canvas; maintain posted office hours; develop community, industry, and employer contacts; participate in community service and committee work; adhere to all College policies.

• Minimum three years of verifiable field experience in low‑voltage cabling, copper and/or fiber optic installation, or related telecommunications/infrastructure work; one year of field experience may suffice with a formal apprenticeship program.
• Ability to teach technical, hands‑on content to adult learners through prior instruction, corporate training, apprenticeship leadership, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to manage a lab‑based learning environment and pace instruction across a multi‑week cohort model.
• Ability to manage recurring cohort logistics independently (enrollment, scheduling, materials, resources, tracking).
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple cohorts concurrently while maintaining quality and compliance.
• Comfort with data entry, tracking, and reporting for program metrics.
• Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills.
• A combination of technical education, industry certification, and verifiable field experience sufficient to demonstrate mastery of the subject matter.

• BICSI Train‑the‑Trainer authorization.
• ETA Fiber Optic Installer certification or equivalent (e.g., FOA, BICSI fiber track).
• Prior experience in workforce development, community college instruction, or apprenticeship program delivery.
• Experience with employer engagement, career fairs, or job placement programming.
• Experience with learning management systems (Canvas preferred).
• Knowledge of the data center, telecommunications, or low‑voltage contracting industry.
• Familiarity with BICSI ATF facility requirements.
