Assistant Director Of Education
Under the direction of the Director of Education, the Assistant Director of Education is responsible for supervising and assisting the teaching team with developing, maintaining, and supervising all Allen County Learning Academy operations.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to use information obtained by contacting public agencies to gather information regarding student's past/current grades, present schedule and the total number of credits obtained; placing students in appropriate classes to keep students on the correct diploma track or place students in HSE classes.
- Maintains accurate student records in order to share information with other public agencies, parents/guardians, and probation officers as needed.
- Supervises students before and after school, during restroom breaks, passing periods and during student lunch periods.
- Supervises teachers
- Provides educational instruction to students and assists in classroom coverage as needed.
- Responsible for inventory and managing equipment and supplies needed by classroom teachers.
- Schedules and participates in Special Education conferences providing educational information and distributing education plans to teachers.
- Assists the Director of Education with compiling the master school schedule and all associated staff teaching duties.
- Performs the duties of the Director of Education in his/her absence.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree in Education with at least 3 years of teaching experience
- Master's Degree in Education Leadership preferred
- Valid Indiana State certification as a Licensed Secondary Teacher
- Knowledge of Indiana diploma requirements
- Ability to track accurate information regarding student academic performance, behavior and attendance
- Detailed knowledge of Allen County Learning Academy policies and procedures
- Appropriate knowledge of teacher responsibilities, teacher licensing, and required teaching materials
- Strong written and verbal skills, including technical writing skills needed for report writing
- Supervisory skills needed to supervise at risk juveniles
- Strong computer skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office and other related software.
Working Conditions:
The Assistant Director of Education requires some lifting, bending, pushing and/or pulling loads, reaching over head, kneeling, crawling and exposure to noise. Frequent mental/visual effort is required. Frequent typing including transcription and proofreading and attention to detail, monitoring equipment and detailed inspection are required.
The ability to stand, walk and sit is required. The Assistant Director of Education has very frequent interactions with hostile and aggressive youth and their families, requiring the ability to physically restrain juveniles if necessary.

Licensing:
Valid Indiana State certification as a Licensed Secondary Teacher
Valid Indiana State Building Level Administrator's License preferred
Indiana State Certification as a Probation Officer within six months
Valid Certification
Required:
CPR/AED/First Aid
Primary Restraint Technique (PRT) certification

Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:00pm and as needed
