Looking for a hands-on role where your work actually makes a difference? Join Allen County and help protect our community and environment by safely managing hazardous materials and supporting critical recycling and waste programs.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys staying active, working outdoors, and being part of a team that keeps our community safe and clean.
What You'll Do
You won't be stuck behind a desk. In this role, you'll:
Collect and manage items like batteries, light bulbs, chemicals, and other hazardous materials
Assist with household hazardous waste drop-off events and community programs
Help unload vehicles, weigh materials, and sort waste for proper disposal
Prepare materials for shipment and support vendor pickups
Set up and tear down community collection events
Operate equipment (forklift, bobcat-training available if needed)
Transport materials safely between locations
Help maintain equipment, vehicles, and facilities
Work alongside a team that supports environmental initiatives across Allen County
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone dependable, team-oriented, and ready to roll up their sleeves:
High school diploma or GED (related degree is a plus, but not required)
Experience in waste management or a similar field is helpful, but we'll train the right person
Valid Indiana Driver's License
Comfortable with physical work and lifting up to 75 lbs
Ability to work in all types of weather conditions
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
What the Job is Like
This is an active, fast-paced role that takes you out into the community and into the field:
Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
Stay physically active throughout your shift
Handle materials that require attention to safety and detail
Interact with the public and local partners during collections
Schedule & Details
Part-Time (up to 30 hours per week)
Overtime opportunities as needed
Reports to the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Coordinator
No supervisory responsibilities
