Job SummaryThe Commodity Specialist – NPI is responsible for providing commodity expertise, material sourcing support and cost analysis for new and existing products. This role supports RFQ and NPI programs by developing accurate material cost estimates, coordinating supplier quotations and ensuring sourcing strategies align with design intent, manufacturability, lead times and business objectives.
The ideal candidate combines hands-on sourcing experience with strong analytical skills and the ability to collaborate closely with Engineering, Program Management and Operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
What You’ll Do- Lead material sourcing and quoting activities for assigned commodities in support of RFQs and NPI programs.
- Review customer and internal BOMs, drawings, and specifications to identify material requirements and sourcing strategies.
- Solicit, evaluate, and analyze supplier quotations for materials, components, and tooling.
- Develop and maintain material cost models and pricing structures to support accurate, competitive quotations.
- Provide commodity expertise to ensure Group Dekko can submit competitive quotes for new and existing business.
- Partner with Engineering and Operations to ensure sourcing aligns with design intent, manufacturability (DFM), and production requirements.
- Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, service, delivery, reliability, and technical capability.
- Support negotiation and administration of contracts with suppliers under the guidance of Strategic Sourcing leadership.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction through volume leverage, blanket orders, alternative materials, or supplier changes.
- Monitor market trends, material availability, and cost drivers impacting assigned commodities.
- Maintain accurate purchasing, quoting, and supplier records within ERP systems (AS/400 or equivalent).
- Participate in supplier visits as needed to support relationships, resolve issues, and drive improvements.
- Support risk assessments and contingency planning for sourcing and supply continuity.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned commodity areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong understanding of supply chain, sourcing, and material cost analysis principles.
- Ability to read and interpret BOMs, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems, Excel, and data analysis tools.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to hold position and defend sourcing recommendations with internal and external stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Negotiation experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in sourcing, procurement, commodity management, or material cost analysis within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience supporting RFQs, quoting, or NPI programs preferred.
- Meaningful experience in commodities such as resin, steel, fasteners, metal parts, electronics, or similar.
- APICS or ISM certification preferred.
- Experience in automotive, aerospace, lighting, wire harness, or electronics manufacturing.
- Exposure to global supply chains, tariffs, and logistics considerations.
- Lean / Six Sigma knowledge.
