Designer II - Sewer & Stormwater

Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.

-5:00 p.m. (hours may vary)

Are you a skilled designer who can analyze complex systems, use tools like AutoCAD and Civil 3D with confidence, and turn data into smart infrastructure solutions?

The City Utilities Engineering team is hiring a Designer II to support and lead sewer and stormwater projects for the City of Fort Wayne. This role builds on foundational experience and offers greater ownership in design, analysis, and project coordination.

What You'll Do Support and lead planning, design, and construction engineering efforts for sewer and stormwater projects. Analyze system performance, develop solutions, and help move projects from concept through construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and support engineering design, analysis, and project coordination for utility projects
  • Review reports, evaluate alternatives, and recommend solutions to improve system performance
  • Develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates for complex or large-scale projects
  • Manage permitting, easements, and pre-bid processes including coordination and documentation
  • Track project schedules, budgets, and documentation using PMIS
What You Bring - Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Ability to meet Engineer Intern (EI) requirements upon passing the FE exam
  • At least one (1) year of relevant engineering design experience or progression from Designer I
Technical Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar design software
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics, hydrology, and utility system design
  • Ability to interpret technical, regulatory, and engineering documents
  • Experience with project management systems (PMIS) and documentation tracking
  • Ability to analyze data, develop solutions, and communicate recommendations clearly
