Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 9 years of experience in Electrical, Mechanical/HVAC, or controls experience in an industrial/commercial environment.
- Bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree in a related field.
- Experience working in data centers, hospitals, power plants, or transmission operations.
- Experience with high voltage electrical substations, or other mission critical facility maintenance and operational experience.
- Ability to communicate with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on the data center systems.
Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Duties include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. Tasks include inspecting, maintaining and repairing various data center systems such as piping and non‑critical electrical or mechanical system components. Technicians assist senior technicians by reading blueprints, conducting tours of systems and assessing their working order.
They develop approaches to reduce operational costs, improve overall data center efficiency, ensure environmental and safety standards are met, identify problems, manage outages, and minimize recovery time.
- Drive efforts to test, validate, improve, and certify new processes and procedures for critical equipment operation within the data center domain.
- Lead efforts to perform compliance activities for a data center and analyze compliance results for data centers globally, ensuring regional and global teams are complying with project/schedule guidelines and Google design standards.
- Drive efforts to monitor data center systems operations, control site activities to minimize risk, and ensure effective response to any excursions.
- Drive efforts to ensure sites are following facility, maintenance, and standard programs globally while exhibiting strength in improvement to those policies and programs.
- Lead the development of strategies to keep operational costs to a minimum, improve efficiency, and reduce environmental impact at a site, along with driving site‑level development of programs and initiatives.
