Overview

At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling – to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world. The Multi-Product Power & Digital (MPD) department designs FPGAs, circuit cards, and electronics subassemblies for a range of products including missiles/effectors, radars, and electronic warfare systems.

The MPD department is seeking a Principal Power & Analog Design Engineer to join our team. This onsite role is located in Fort Wayne, IN.

What You Will Do
  • Drive requirements decomposition, lead trade studies, and define architecture at the circuit card and/or sub-system level.
  • Lead power converter specification development and the design, analysis, test, and documentation of analog and power conversion circuit card(s).
  • Partner with ECAD drafters through stack‑up definition, layout, and routing activities.
  • Plan and execute integration and verification activities in engineering laboratories.
  • Provide product test and troubleshooting support, and support root‑cause failure investigations.
  • Define schedules for circuit card and sub‑system level tasking, driving execution to the planned budget and schedule.
  • Identify and manage project risks and opportunities, and lead medium‑sized teams to success.
  • Coach, review, and delegate work to junior engineers, serving as a subject‑matter expert within discipline.
  • Lead internal and external technical reviews and support customer interactions and relations.
  • Contribute to product and technology roadmaps, making improvements to processes, systems or products to enhance overall performance.
  • Engage in personal technical growth and facilitate technical growth in peers and junior engineers.
Qualifications

Must Have:

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Design, analysis, test, and/or simulation experience with linear converters and non‑isolated converter topologies: buck, boost, buck‑boost.
  • Experience with isolated converter topologies: flyback, half‑bridge, full‑bridge, forward, push‑pull, resonant.
  • Experience with EMI filter design, analysis, test, and/or simulation in power electronics circuits.
  • Experience with transformer or inductor design, analysis, test, and/or simulation considerations in power electronics circuits.
  • Experience with schematic capture/circuit board layout CAD package.
  • Experience using tools such as MATLAB, MathCAD, Mathematica, or similar.

Preferred:

  • One or more advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering or a related STEM major.
  • Experience designing at the circuit card stack level, accounting for thermal, structural, mechanical, reliability, and quality concerns.
  • Robust analog or digital power converter design experience, including flyback, half‑bridge, full‑bridge, forward, and push‑pull topologies.
  • Understanding of switching converter control techniques and operating modes such as voltage mode, peak and average current modes.
  • Experience with Texas Instruments C‑2000 family of microcontrollers, Microchip PIC controllers, VHDL, or real‑time operating systems.
  • Experience with CAN‑bus, UART, and/or RS‑422.
  • Familiarity with transformer and inductor design considerations in power electronics circuits.
  • Experience with system‑level power architecture trades and circuit card assembly‑level power architecture trades.
  • Experience with development of power converter specifications and considerations for voltages >400V and/or power >10kW.
  • Experience with three‑phase power systems, power factor control, inverter/rectifier development, and military specifications.
  • Experience with circuit simulators SIMPLIS and/or system simulator SABER;
Siemens Xpedition, xDX Designer, xPCB Layout, and/or Hyperlynx.
  • Guiding ECAD personnel through PWB layout of power circuitry and technical drawing creation.
