Overview
The Equipment Safety Project Manager will work as integral part of the Tech Center Team (TC) to manage, support, and develop enhanced safety systems for the machinery, facilities, and processes related to the production environment. They will exhibit and develop the culture of safety within the production areas and maintain compliance to all State, federal, and company safety standards.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Safety or equivalent field, or 5 years' experience, required.
- CMSE - Certified Machinery Safety Expert or in process of completing required.
- 30-hour OSHA certification required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with OSHA and safety programs, or equivalent machinery safety experience.
- Manage the execution and assist in the design aspects of safety-related projects, both technical and administrative, which bear critical influence on the overall safety culture at Fort Wayne Metals (FWM).
- Develop and manage detailed project plans, including definition of roles, responsibilities, and milestones.
- Monitor project progress and report to necessary personnel.
- Collect and analyze data and information to research solutions for improvement of current processes and systems of overall operations, various strategically significant projects, and ongoing company initiatives.
- Act as subject matter expert, supporting engineering and work with the Environmental group when installation of new equipment is made to ensure air, wastewater and/or storm water permits are evaluated/modified, and that equipment meets or exceeds minimum safety standards.
- Execute safety projects, both external and internal to completion. This may involve managing external engineering/design resources to help get projects completed.
- Responsible for risk assessments on all new equipment, with a focus on meeting regulatory requirements; manage risk assessment system, monitor action items, and update information in electronic files by equipment group.
- Respond and follow up with Safety Action Card and Incident Reports pertaining to machine or equipment safety issues, and assist equipment and opportunities related to our operations.
- Using hazard analysis, injury history, and regulatory considerations, further prioritize and maintain a comprehensive list of legacy equipment guarding and safety related projects, with assistance from the Safety Manager.
- Serve as the representative to review and sign-off on IQ-OQ paperwork for safety.
- Notify the Safety Manager of any unresolved compliance issues or safety concerns related to equipment CAP-EX submissions, based on the Equipment Safety Project Manager's involvement in machine specific projects and knowledge of the safety controls associated with the equipment.
- Serve as the Tech Center representative to support Safety, Engineering and Facilities, in the identification of machine and process specific engineering controls required to prevent and/or minimize various employee potential exposures associated with our equipment and processes.
- Serve as the Laser Safety Officer or Deputy Laser Safety Officer, to be able to support and assure that any current or purchased laser containing equipment, the area housing this equipment, and applicable procedures, meet all requirements for safe use by operators and protection of bystanders.
- Stay abreast of new laws, regulations and safety best practices to support machine and assist device compliance pertaining to our operations, benchmarking and continuous improvement activities.
- Participate in the EHS Weekly Pulse meeting involving leadership to provide updates on and obtain support for safety related activities.
- Professionally represent Fort Wayne Metals in community and industry Health and Safety groups and programs pertinent to support machine and assist device activities.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision and be capable of self-checking completed work.
- Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office products.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to convey caring while emphasizing accountability.
- Fast-paced production environment.
- Frequent travel to other Fort Wayne Metals facilities, required.
