The Engineering Manager II, Product Certification is responsible for managing staffing and resources for specific project assignments and lab testing. Assesses the feasibility of projects, sets goals, coordinates specifications and procedures, and provides administrative oversight. Occasionally serves as working engineer.

  • Coordinates and directs projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
  • Manages agency certification projects for materials-related product certifications (NSF/ANSI 61, KTW, ACS, REACH, RoHS, etc.).
  • Provides materials expertise as a member of product and process development project teams.
  • Directs the work and priorities of the product certification engineering group.
  • Implements engineering tools and practices.
  • Develops and implements policies, standards, and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the company.
  • Directs, reviews, and approves product design and changes.
  • Analyzes technology, resource needs, and market demand to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
  • Performs administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditure, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
  • Sets scientific and technical goals within broad outlines provided by top management.
  • As assigned, evaluates and leads new and existing projects following rigorous documentation practices and records all tests, protocols, and results in test data worksheets.
  • Establishes individual engineering priorities to support the test plan schedule.
  • Tracks project performance. Identifies and resolves problems.
  • Performs site investigation for cause and origin determination.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Knows and understands relevant certifying agency standards, testing protocols, and certification procedures.
  • Able to plan and lead certification projects involving cross-functional team members.
  • Knows arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Knows and predicts physical principles, laws, their interrelationships and applications to understand fluid, material and atmospheric dynamics; understands mechanical and electrical structures and processes.
  • Analyzes information and evaluates results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Identifies the underlying principles, reasons, facts, or information by breaking down information or data into separate parts.
  • Effectively communicates information and responds to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, the general public, and other employees of the organization.
  • Maintains confidentiality and uses discretion with business information.
  • Reads and understands documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Writes routine reports and correspondence.
  • Utilizes common-sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.
  • Deals with problems involving several known variables in situations of routine nature.
  • Plans the time, method, manner, and/or performance sequence of own work; may also occasionally assist in planning work assignments performed by others within a limited area of operation.
