At Strive Recovery of Fort Wayne, our Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) play a critical role in maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for individuals in substance use disorder treatment. This hybrid role is designed for a dependable, detail-oriented technician who can support patient care while also serving as the first point of contact for after-hours admissions inquiries.
Position SummaryWe are seeking a Behavioral Health Technician who will provide direct patient support during their shift and manage the admissions phone after normal business hours. This position is essential to ensuring continuity of care, timely response to referral sources, and a positive first impression for prospective patients and families during evenings, nights, and weekends. The technician will follow established scripts and protocols for admissions calls and will escalate clinical or admissions decisions to the on-call leadership team as appropriate.
Shift: 2nd shift Tuesday-Thursday 3:30pm-11:30pm, Friday and Saturday 2:00pm-10:00pm
Job Responsibilities- Maintain a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients
- Conduct routine patient monitoring and safety checks per policy
- Provide support with daily programming, groups, and activities as assigned
- Document observations, behaviors, and incidents accurately and timely in the EMR
- Assist nursing and clinical staff with patient needs within scope of role
- Enforce facility rules, structure, and boundaries in a professional manner
- Respond to emergencies and follow all safety and crisis protocols
- Answer incoming admissions and referral calls after business hours
- Use approved call scripts to gather required intake information
- Provide general program information, next-step guidance, and reassurance to callers
- Accurately document call details in the designated admissions log or EMR
- Notify and escalate calls to the on-call Admissions, Nursing, or Leadership staff as required
- Coordinate with on-call staff for potential admissions, transfers, or urgent clinical needs
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism during all admissions-related communications

- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience as a Behavioral Health Technician, Mental Health Technician, or similar role preferred
- Experience in substance use disorder or behavioral health settings strongly preferred
- Comfortable answering phones and speaking with patients, families, and referral sources
- Ability to follow scripts, protocols, and escalation procedures
- Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and compassionate in high-stress situations
- Reliable attendance and ability to work independently during shifts
