The Electronic Medical Record Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, maintaining and administering the clinical records program according to the accepted record-keeping practices of the facility in compliance with state and federal regulations and training and oversight of the Electronic Medical Records.
- Monitoring records for completeness, accuracy, timeliness and internal consistency while the resident is in the facility
- Assuring that all medical record information is protected, kept confidential and from loss or destruction
- Training of all new employees on the electronic medical record data entry and procedures
- Auditing records of new admissions, in-house residents and discharge residents according to established time frames, using proper forms and establishing method of follow-up
- Developing and implementing a system for advising all disciplines of documentation to be completed or corrected
- Working with the team to keep all medical records up to date
- Assembling discharge records according to facility format such as obtaining the transfer information necessary for the continuity of care purpose from referring health care providers as needed for specific residents
- Must possess a nursing license (RN or LPN)
- Have a thorough understanding of the principles of best medical record practices
- The ability to follow written and verbal instructions, function independently and make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
- Personal integrity and the ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and personnel
- The ability to adhere to professional code of ethics
- The ability to relate information concerning a resident’s condition to the appropriate staff members
