Data Center Cable Technician (Fiber & Copper)

Job Type: Full‑Time (Contract / Contract‑to‑Hire depending on project)
Pay: $20.00 – $23.00 per hour (based on experience)
OverviewWe are actively hiring Data Center Cable Technicians to support large‑scale infrastructure projects in Fort Wayne, IN. This role offers the chance to work in a high‑demand, fast‑growing environment supporting critical data center operations. Candidates should have experience with fiber optics, rack and stack installation, and structured cabling, and enjoy hands‑on technical work in mission‑critical environments.
What You’ll Be Doing- Install and decommission fiber optic and copper cabling systems in a data center environment
- Perform rack and stack of network and server equipment
- Pull, route, label, and terminate Cat5, Cat6, and fiber cabling
- Conduct fiber splicing (fusion splicing – ribbon/single fiber) and troubleshooting
- Test cabling using DSX 5000 testers, OTDR, and other equipment
- Download and validate test results using tools such as Linkware / Linkware Live
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and design documents
- Install ladder racks, cable trays, and seismic bracing systems (overhead and underfloor)
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant data center environment
- Identify live versus decommissioned cabling and safely perform service swaps
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to ensure project success
- Provide progress updates and assist with resolving technical issues
- Experience with fiber optic cabling and fusion splicing
- Rack and stack installation experience
- Data center environmental experience
- Low‑voltage cabling (Cat5/Cat6) proficiency
- Ability to pull, terminate, dress, and label cables
- Familiarity with cable testing procedures and troubleshooting
- Ability to read floor plans, wiring diagrams, and blueprints
- Experience with telecom tools and test equipment
- Understanding of industry safety standards and best practices
- Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
- Experience with MDF/IDF closet layout and build‑outs
- Fiber trunk dressing and furcation skills
- Experience operating in a FIM database environment
- Service swaps and live network support experience
- Ability to manage documentation and job reporting
- Previous experience supporting large‑scale data center deployments
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Comfortable standing, walking, bending for extended periods
- Ability to climb ladders and work on raised platforms
- Capable of pulling cable and working in tight or elevated spaces
- Strong manual dexterity for tools and equipment
