Lead Packer

Job Summary

Lead Packer responsible for orientation and training of new packers to the shift, development of packers on the team, assistance to supervisors in supervisory actions, assignment of employees to lines, tracking attendance, scheduling breaks, and ensuring production lines have the necessary tools and equipment based on packing specifications.

• Assign machine line responsibility to shift employees.
• Assign and give breaks (including lunch) throughout shift.
• Pick, inspect, and pack quality parts into boxes.
• Accurately count parts to ensure consistent quality product.
• Bag counted parts if not run through an automated bagger and place into correct box on the assigned production line.
• Ensure each box is properly sealed to minimize damage.
• Direct other packers as guided by the supervisor.
• Participate in training of new packers and collect training documentation.
• Provide backup to supervisor by completing incident reports, production shift reports, and printing work orders.
• Conduct progress conversations with packers quarterly.
• Ensure current packing specifications are printed and available at the line.
• Own the certification process for packers on shift.
• Ensure boxes needed for production are staged and ready.
• Reference packaging specifications at shift start versus packaging used.
• Ensure proper date coding equipment compliance with date coding requirements.
• Assign tasks such as repack or hold product inspection during line downtime.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area and resolve unsafe conditions.
• Maintain good housekeeping and keep production areas clean throughout the shift.
• Adhere to and reinforce all safety policies and procedures.
• Monitor, track, and facilitate quarterly cleaning.
• Train and instruct other packers on packing quality parts and identifying quality issues.
• Report any quality problems immediately to the operator.

• Knowledge of basic quality checks per control matrix and quality systems.
• Fluent in production parts.
• Understanding of SPC and working knowledge of SAP.
• Ability to read the production schedule and locate boxes in SAP.
• Ability to use SAP for box inventory lookup, finished goods confirmation, and production work order release.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
• Understanding of quality constraints for products, conforming vs non‑conforming.
• Basic Excel knowledge.
• Conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to read and interpret documents.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

• 12‑hour shift: 5:00 to 5:00 (day and night shift positions available).
• 2‑2‑3 work schedule (15 days per month).
