CNC Programmer / Manufacturing Engineer

This hands-on CNC Programming role focuses on developing and optimizing programs for lathes and mills while directly supporting machining operations on the shop floor. You will own program development, improve machining processes, and solve real-time production challenges in close collaboration with production, quality, and engineering teams. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being both highly technical and practical, with the opportunity to influence tooling decisions, process improvements, and overall manufacturing performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs for turning, milling, and other machining operations using CAM software, with a preference for SolidCAM.
  • Support CNC machine setup and prove-out activities to ensure programs run safely, reliably, and efficiently in production.
  • Create and maintain setup sheets, tooling sheets, and other machining documentation to support consistent and repeatable operations.
  • Troubleshoot CNC machining and programming issues related to tooling, machine performance, cycle time, and part quality.
  • Modify feeds, speeds, tool paths, and machining parameters to improve efficiency, extend tooling life, and enhance process consistency.
  • Collaborate closely with production personnel, machinists, quality, and engineering teams to drive continuous improvement and reduce downtime.
  • Assist with first article runs and validation activities, ensuring new or revised processes meet quality and performance requirements.
  • Support implementation of machining process improvements, including tooling selection, tool life optimization, and fixture enhancements.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and GD&T requirements to ensure machining processes meet design intent and quality standards.
  • Perform or support Statistical Process Control (SPC) checks and basic process verification activities as required.
  • Recognize improper machine functionality and coordinate repair or maintenance support when necessary.
  • Maintain compliance with company safety procedures, quality standards, and health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including standardization of machining processes and documentation.
  • Participate in additional duties and special projects as assigned by leadership.

Essential Skills

  • Associate degree or equivalent technical certification in a relevant field.
  • 3+ years of CNC programming and machining experience.
  • Hands-on experience with CNC lathes and mills.
  • Experience working with metal machining applications.
  • Proficiency in CAM software such as Mastercam, SolidCAM, or similar tools.
  • Experience with CAD software such as Solid Works or similar platforms.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience with tooling and fixture design to support efficient machining processes.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, cutting tools, feeds and speeds, and tooling optimization.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience with CNC machines and machining processes.
  • Knowledge of SPC, metrology equipment, and process verification methods.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively supporting cross-functional teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience optimizing CNC programs specifically for turning and milling operations.
  • Background in continuous improvement initiatives within a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and standardization of machining processes.
  • Comfort working closely with production, quality, and engineering teams on the shop floor.
  • Demonstrated ability to document processes clearly through setup sheets and tooling documentation.
  • Interest in ongoing professional development and learning new manufacturing technologies.

Work Environment

This role follows a typical schedule of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is based in a manufacturing facility with approximately 100 employees. You will work closely with quality, safety, and other engineering departments, spending a significant portion of time on the shop floor and…
