Summary
:
Program and tend one or more industrial robotic welders to weld metal work pieces to specifications on a production basis by performing the following duties.
- Program robotic welder(s) by manipulating keypad to control movements of robot torch and positioner, determine and program weld sequences, program individual welds, and test program to verify weld points and part clearance.
- Collaborate with Engineering Department and other operators regarding fixtures and robot capabilities.
- Set up jobs by gathering fixtures and components, locating master job in the computer directory, loading and securing fixtures and components onto the robot table manually or using a hoist or forklift, visually checking points of contact, and making adjustments as needed.
- Operate robotic welder(s) by continually loading components onto fixture, operating controls and adjusting machine, and monitoring robot functions; perform manual production welding processes.
- Perform first‑piece and in‑process inspection by checking parts per blueprint using calipers and tape measure, inspect according to C=0 chart, and complete inspection form.
- Train robot operators in basic robotic welder operation and setup.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs on robot(s) as required, complete maintenance log.
- Clean and scrape parts using hand‑held grinder and scraper.
- MIG weld to add or touch‑up welds; MIG weld on production jobs as time permits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The position may require occasional supervisory responsibility in the absence of Team Leader and/or for relaying general information.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to five years welding experience and/or training; basic blueprint proficiency required. Previous robotic programming experience preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures; read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine correspondence; speak effectively with vendors and employees.
Math Skills
:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Reasoning Skills
:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and handle several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Demands
:
Must regularly stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; walk, reach, climb, balance, crouch, or crawl; frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds; specific vision abilities required (close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, focus adjustment).
Work Environment
:
Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles; occasional exposure to outside weather and risk of electric shock; noise level usually loud.
