We are seeking a 2nd or 3rd Shift Tool Room Machinist with American Axle in Fort Wayne, IN. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity, offering up to $28.87. Would like candidates who would consider either shift.

2nd shift - 3pm - 11:30pm

3rd Shift - 11pm - 7.30am

  • Must be able to pass a background check (no felonies, no violent misdemeanors)
  • Must be able to pass a 10-panel drug screen
Job Description

The Tool Room Machinist is responsible for setting up, adjusting, and operating manual and CNC machine tools to manufacture, repair, and modify tooling, fixtures, dies, gauges, and precision components. This position supports production by ensuring tooling accuracy, quality, and minimal downtime.

Skills Required

Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge Proficient in manual machining (critical in tool room environment) Knowledge of tool steels, heat treating, and surface finishes Proficiency in using calipers, micrometers, and other inspection equipment

Experience Required
  • 3-7+ years' experience in tool room or precision machining environment
  • Experience with tight tolerance machining
  • Set up CNC mills and/or lathes (prove out programs, set offsets, adjust tooling)
  • Interpret blueprints, GD&T, and engineering drawings
  • Manufacture and repair fixtures, dies, jigs, and special tooling
  • Hold tight tolerances (.0005  or as required)
Education Required
  • High School Diploma
Additional Information

2nd Shift 3pm-11:30pm

3rd Shift 11pm-7:30am

Estimated Hours per Week: 40-56 There is 1 opening on each shift. Training will occur on 1st shift (Approx. 3 Weeks)
  • Understand CNC programming.
  • Edit/upload programs into equipment.
  • Work independently/self-manage on off shifts.
Work involves:
  • Frequent setup/teardown work.
  • Mostly lathe-based equipment.
