Habitat GFW is looking for groups of two people to volunteer once every 3 to 4 months for our Aluminum Can Recycling Program.
Responsibilities:
- Drive a Habitat box truck (to be picked up at the Habitat ReStore on Lima Road)
- Collect bags of aluminum cans throughout Fort Wayne from stationary "can sheds" throughout town and toss into the back of the truck.
- Drop off cans at Omni Source to be recycled (Omni Source staff empties the truck for you).
- Return box truck to Habitat ReStore (refill gas and clean up truck, if needed).
Can Shed Volunteers choose their schedule! You can run the route any day and time during your assigned month; it's very casual.
This has been an excellent opportunity for our current volunteers to volunteer with their spouse, stay active in the community, and help Habitat raise funds for affordable housing in Greater Fort Wayne.
In 2025, we raised over $26,000 through recycling cans. Our goal in 2026 is to raise over $30,000 to subsidize the cost of one Habitat home for a local family.
DetailsVolunteers should be between the ages of 25 and 75.

Inclement Weather Plan:
You make your schedule, so if the day you wanted to drive the route it rains, you can change your day.
