Job Description

Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) supports plasma center operations, reporting to the Plasma Center Manager and providing medical support under the guidance of the Center Physician. The role involves determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory results, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

• Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and review of Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
• Evaluate donor reactions according to SOPs and manage medical emergencies, including development of Center Physician standing orders and donor transport to emergency care.
• Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs regarding unacceptable findings or medical/technical issues related to donor safety and eligibility.
• Support Hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees.
• Manage employee incidents and determine need for further evaluation by occupational health/ER, following EHS guidance.
• Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations of local pandemic threats.

• High school diploma or equivalent, or graduate-level nursing program with state requirements.
• Currently licensed or certified in the state of assignment (e.g., EMT-Paramedic).
• Current CPR and AED certification.
• Compliance with state IV therapy requirements.
• Completion of FDA-approved training for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
• At least two years of clinical or hospital experience.
