You will report to the Plasma Center Manager and work as a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to support plasma center operations.
About the roleAs Medical Support Specialist, you will determine donor eligibility, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results. You work under the guidance of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager) and are responsible for medical issues under the Center Physician. You will be familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry and provide center‑level support of environmental, health and safety (EHS).
Responsibilities- Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent management, AIDS education, self‑exclusion, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and SPE review.
- Evaluate donor reactions and follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including development of standing orders and transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs when providing unacceptable findings to donors or guidance on medical or technical issues.
- Support Hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees, where applicable.
- Manage employee incidents and determine further evaluation requirements by occupational health, referencing EHS guidance.
- Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats.
- High school diploma or equivalent, including a graduate‑equivalent recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
- Active license or certification in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT‑Paramedic.
- Current CPR and AED certification.
- Fulfillment of state requirements for basic IV therapy.
- Completion of FDA‑approved training requirements for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
- Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.
