Laboratory Technician
A growing manufacturing organization is seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support quality control operations. In this role, you conduct laboratory testing on liquid products, accurately document results, and partner closely with production teams to ensure products consistently meet established specifications and customer expectations. You play a key role in building out laboratory capabilities in a newly renovated facility and help shape quality processes as the organization expands.
Responsibilities:
- Perform testing on incoming materials, in-process samples, and finished goods to verify compliance with established quality standards.
- Conduct a variety of laboratory analyses, including pH measurement, specific gravity determination, titration, refractive index, viscosity, and other wet chemistry tests.
- Complete visual and physical property evaluations to assess product appearance and performance characteristics.
- Carry out adhesion, coating performance, and corrosion-related testing to ensure products meet required functional specifications.
- Prepare samples, reagents, and test solutions following established procedures and good laboratory practices.
- Accurately record and maintain laboratory data, test results, and supporting documentation in an organized and traceable manner.
- Generate and review product documentation such as Certificates of Analysis to support customer and internal quality requirements.
- Maintain proper sample retention, labeling, and inventory practices to ensure traceability and compliance with quality procedures.
- Follow established safety protocols, standard work instructions, and quality procedures while working in the laboratory and production areas.
- Support production teams by identifying quality concerns, communicating findings, and helping address issues promptly.
- Assist with troubleshooting product or process issues, participate in investigations, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal teams on product development activities, testing plans, and responses to customer-related quality inquiries.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of laboratory equipment, instruments, and workspace.
- Help develop and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) and implement quality functions as the laboratory and facility expand.
- Work independently after training, managing daily testing priorities and communicating effectively with plant leadership.
Essential
Skills:
- High school diploma required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a scientific field such as chemistry, biology, or a related discipline preferred.
- Prior experience in a laboratory environment testing liquid products; entry-level candidates with relevant scientific coursework may be considered.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory techniques and analytical testing methods, including wet chemistry and titration.
- Fundamental understanding of chemistry concepts, mathematics, and unit conversions applicable to laboratory work.
- Ability to perform pH, specific gravity, titration, refractive index, and viscosity measurements accurately.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to document work clearly, thoroughly, and accurately.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and adapt in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
- Comfort working with quality control and quality assurance principles in a production environment.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills to support investigations and continuous improvement efforts.
Additional Skills &
Qualifications:
- Education beyond a high school diploma in a scientific field (Associate's or Bachelor's degree) is highly desirable.
- Coursework or experience in analytical chemistry, wet chemistry, and laboratory analysis techniques.
- Exposure to quality control and quality assurance practices in manufacturing or chemical production environments.
- Experience preparing reagents, test solutions, and maintaining laboratory inventory and sample retention systems.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including production, technical, and leadership groups.
- Comfort developing and refining standard operating procedures and contributing to the structure of a growing quality function.
- Willingness to work independently after training and take ownership of laboratory testing and documentation.
- Adaptability and flexibility to support a small, evolving team and a newly expanded facility.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Wayne, IN.
Pay and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
