The Grocery Manager may lead operations in the absence of the Store Director and must assist customers as needed while maintaining a friendly, energetic demeanor.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepare weekly sales and labor projections to maximize sales and profits; keep department operations within the labor percent allowed.
  • Monitor and control all costs and expenses, including ordering, inventory control, weighing procedures, shrink, and ad displays.
  • Manage the Grocery Department staff: hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and performance reviews; ensure staff is trained on all policies and procedures.
  • Oversee shift operations and approve department work schedules.
  • Ensure weekly flyer ads are in stock and ready for sale during business hours and that upcoming ad products are ordered, in stock, and available for processing.
  • Stock the grocery department: facing, filling, and organizing all product items per schematics, and ensuring tag and pricing accuracy.
  • Maintain cleanliness of grocery aisles, storage, and work areas for safety—clean shelves, keep floors free of liquid spills, and remove hazardous debris.
  • Respond positively to customer inquiries and assist with purchases, information, and product selection, including selling and cross‑selling of products.
  • Receive, inspect, and log products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality.
  • Monitor product rotation, paying particular attention to expired stock and discarding outdated or spoiled items.
  • Balance the grocery general ledger and financial statements.
  • Prepare department pre‑inventory: back‑stocking and assuring tags match products.
  • Manage inventory control to prevent out‑of‑stocks and over‑stocks.
  • Sustain a high level of product knowledge and product preparation.
  • Walk the department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and overall clean appearance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalency degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years professional experience.
  • Preferred 3–5 years grocery retail experience in department processes and procedures.
  • Previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Maintain the highest level of customer service at all times.
  • Adapt to the ever‑changing high‑volume retail environment while working in a cross‑functional team.
  • Take initiative when problems arise.
  • Flexibility to adapt in a variety of situations.
  • Advanced attention to detail with the capability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written communication and documentation skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for dealing cross‑functionally with peers and senior management.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain excellent organizational skills.
  • Lead, support, and contribute to team goals.
  • Work varied hours/days as business dictates.
  • Understand proper handling, preparation, seasonality, and appropriate shelf life of products.
  • Familiar with Health Department guidelines and regulations in a grocery retail environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
  • Analyze and interpret company financial statements and results.
